Lifting Working Group

Injuries arising from lifting operations account for a significant proportion of the total of those occurring offshore; typically about 20%.  In response, the IRF Lifting Working Group has formulated a regulatory strategy to address worldwide lifting operations.  The strategy is due for implementation during 2007 and includes:

  1. Inspection templates addressing: Planning of lifting operations, Competency assurance, Maintenance, and Man riding using winches.
  2. Recording of the root causes of investigated incidents using a standardised methodology (Human, Technology, Organisation) and
  3. A central database to collate worldwide regulatory inspection and incident data.  Reports of the findings derived from the database will be published on the IRF web site.
